Lebedyansky's History
JSC Lebedyansky's history spans over 35 years.
In 1967 a small cannery was established in Lebedyan,
Lipetsk region. This place was chosen because the Lipetsk province
is situated in the fertile Central region, traditionally known
for its fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, this province boasts high
quality artesian water. At first the Lebedyansky cannery produced
canned fruit and vegetables goods and was unprofitable for a long
period of time. In 1981 Mr. Nikolai Bortsov was appointed
general manager. The new director found a way to turn the
cannery into stable profit company.
By late 80's Lebedyansky had a Tetra Pak aseptic filling line
running. It is interesting to note that Lebedyansky was the
second factory in the entire USSR to use the aseptic filling
technology. As time went on, aseptically packed juices become key
business for the company. In 1989 the Progress factory was built
in cooperation with Italian specialists. Today JSC Progress
is also part of the Lebedyansky holding.
In 1992 Lebedyansky was transformed into a joint-stock
company.
In 1996 the Company launched Tonus, its first brand-named
juices. These natural and healthy juices quickly conquered Russian
consumers all over the country.
After the 1998 crisis when most of the foreign producers left
Russian market, Lebedyansky decided to become a nationwide
producer. In 1999 the headquarters of the company moved
to Moscow. Beginning in 2000, several medium- and top-level
managers with previous experience with major Western companies in the
FMCG sector and the B2B sector began joining the Company. Step
by step, Lebedyansky transformed from a production orientated
to a market orientated company. Lebedyansky had launched
a balanced portfolio of strong juice brands, including the
Ya brand in the premium segment, the Tonus brand in the
mid-priced segment and the Fruktoviy Sad, Frustyle and Privet brands
in the low-priced segment. In addition, the Company sells baby
food juices and purees under the Frutonyanya brand. In an effort
to meet growing consumer demand, the Company continues
to develop and improve its juice and baby food lines
by improving its existing products and regularly bringing new
products to the market.
As a result of these transformations, Lebedyansky only
in a few years grew from a local enterprise
to a company which leads the Russian juice market. Company
annual turnover grew from 18 million dollars
in 1998 to 710 million dollars in 2006, and the market
share from 4% to 30%. Lebedyansky is recognized as one
of the most dynamically developing companies of the country.
